Fix graphics device driver error code 43

Aug 19 2020 by Amanda Dela Cruz

Have you stumbled upon a graphics device driver error code 43? Don’t worry, it’s very easy to fix this kind of graphics driver error. This often happens when your graphics driver is failing or it’s out-of-date. With the constant update of Windows, it’s a very common conundrum that many PC users encounter.

However, please know that if the hardware is the problem, the following steps below may not work for you.

Download the latest graphics driver

In order to do this properly, you must know the model number and manufacturer name of your graphics driver. You can check this through the stickers on your PC rig if you’ve bought it as a set or you can look for the box of the graphics driver that you’ve bought.

You may also do this simply by typing the dxdiag text on the search/run function of Windows. Once the window of dxdiag pops up, go to the Display tab and copy the text on the Name field and look for it on your manufacturer’s website. You can also find other sources of drivers on the net but we don’t highly suggest doing so because there are a lot of seedy websites that may potentially deploy your PC with viruses.

If you’ve successfully downloaded the driver, install it then restart your PC.

Uninstall then Reinstall your Driver

Another easy way to fix graphics device driver error code 43 is by simply uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics driver. It sounds simplistic but sometimes with Windows, methods such as this work like a charm. The same goes for how some Windows errors are magically fixed just by a single restart of the computer.

  1. Go to Start Type device managerin the search field then hit Device Manager.
  2. You will be shown a list of your devices. Look for the device that’s showing errors. In this case, it’s your graphics hardware. You may also click the ones with yellow exclamation marks indicators. Click then right-click your selection and choose Uninstall. Click OKfor Windows to uninstall your driver.
  3. After the uninstallation process, highlight then right-click the name of your computer(you may find this at the top of the list of devices) then choose Scan for hardware changes. This will reinstall all of the device drivers of your PC.
  4. To find out if the solution worked for you, select the device from the list again then right-click. A message saying “This device is working properly” will appear on the General tabunder the Device status if the fix worked. Should the message be absent, contact your graphics driver manufacturer.

Update your Graphics Driver

If you’re using Windows 10, you’ll be provided with constant and automatic updates via the Windows Updates feature. It takes care of all your PC’s drivers including its peripherals such as the printers, monitors, network adapters, keyboard, mouse, etc.

It also updates your graphics driver for you. However, if you’re still encountering the graphics device driver error code 43, you may do the Windows Update manually by following the steps below.

Updating your Graphics Driver Manually on Windows

  1. Right-click on the Start buttonwhich can be found on the lower-left part of your Windows 10’s dock. Hit Device Manager from the list of options.
  2. You’ll be shown a list of devices. Go to the device that’s related to the graphics device driver error code 43 or anything that has an indicator of a yellow exclamation mark.
  3. Right-click the device then select Properties. Choose driverthen click Update Driver.
  4. Hit Search automatically for updated driver software.

Once a driver update is found, Windows will automatically install and update your driver. Choose Close after the installation has finished.

Should Windows not be able to find a new driver update, you may try going directly to your manufacturer’s website as explained in the first step.

Updating your Graphics Driver Automatically on Windows 10

Are you using Windows 10? You’re in luck because you can use the automatic updates that Windows 10 offers. However, please know that before doing so, you will have no control over what gets updated because it does the driver updating by batch.

  1. Select the search icon(the one that looks like a magnifying glass on the bottom left part of your dock).
  2. Type Windows Updatethen click.
  3. Click Check for updates. Windows will download all the latest updates it deems that your computer needs including all of the drivers of your PC and its peripherals.

Added to that, this may also take more than an hour because Windows will not only download the drivers.

Get the old working driver by doing a RollBack

If a recent update is what you feel what caused the graphics driver error code 43, or any type of errors that only manifested right after a Windows update, you may try fixing these by rolling back the drivers to their previous versions.

Remember

Because Windows 10 Updates installs and updates all of your PC’s drivers automatically, some of the downloaded and installed files may have been the reason why you’re experiencing sudden PC issues or errors. To deal with this conundrum, follow the simple steps below.

Right-click the Start button then choose Device Manager.

From the device list, find the device that’s showing errors or anything that’s indicated with a yellow exclamation mark. Right-click it then select Properties.

Choose Driver then hit Roll Back Driver.
